Galapagos Islands Trip

The Adventure begins...The cruise Director greets us with “Good Morning, Good Morning” over the ships intercom system; and so the day begins on the Celebrity Xpedition in the Galapagos Islands.

This adventure had been planned for over two years, and finally we arrive in Quito, Ecuador on May 2nd, 2014. Note to travelers, your passport must be valid for six, yes 6 months in order to travel to Ecuador. I have traveled for years and somehow missed this very important fact, and yes my best buddy and travel agent Betty did inform me when we booked the trip but somehow I missed it…. The important thing is that my hubby and I were able to renew our passports and off we went on the most incredible journey.

On this trip we were immersed in the Ecuadorian culture and cuisine. We dined on local seafood, fresh fruits and vegetables, fried plantains, cerivche, soups, chocolate tortes; all freshly prepared and delicious. Usually when we travel I have a lot to say about the local cuisine, however on this trip the Galapagos Iguana’s, Sea Turtles, Sea lions and of course the Galapagos Tortoises were the star attractions.

We arrived on the Island of Baltra, a two hour flight from Quito airport, and we were welcomed by the Naturalists who would be our guides. We boarded small buses and headed down to the docks where we were greeted by the sea lions lounging all around us. We boarded the Zodiacs and we were ferried to the Celebrity Xpedition, a 296-foot mega-yacht that was our home for the week. And so it began, the most spectacular adventure, the adventure of a life-time.
